北の空に移りました。光度が落ちてきました。
Machholz comet on January 31st
It was moved to the sky in the north.

I made an observation of Comet Machholz (C/2004 Q2) using my 7 x 50 binoculars. The comet's coma appears large and diffuse.
I estimate the magnitude of the comet to be close to 4.5 (in comparison to the nearby stars).
The brightest star in the field towards the east is Alpha Persei (1.78m) and the star closest to the comet is Iota Persei (4.03m).
I welcome any comments on my observation.

Finally observation after a very long period of cloudy weather!!

The image shows the tiny nucleus of comet Machholz taken with a 10 inch Newton and
ATK-2C air cooled ccd camera at 0.32´´/pixel and a composite of 79 exposures
of 2.77 sec.Some dark structures are visible in this central condensation.

この冬は特に気流が悪くて、惑星観測は望めない状態です。
マックホルツ彗星画像(1月1日から13日)を編集しました。
10日以降イオンテイルの変化がありました。

In this winter, the seeing is bad specifically and the planet observation is
in the condition which it isn't possible to want.
It edited Machholz comet image ( 1- 13 January  ).
There was a change of the ion tail since the 10th.

I have created a mosaic of of Comet Machholz and the Pleiades (M45) on January 11, 2005 at 06:00 U.T. using my 7 x 50 binoculars.
The pair was separated by approximately 7.5 degrees (or a little larger than the field of my binoculars (7.1 degrees)).

I was able to obtain a good view of the Comet Machholz (C/2004 Q2) adjacent the Pleiades (M45)
on January 8,2005 at 00:30 U.T. using my 7 x 50 binoculars.
The comet was very prominent adjacent to the beautiful Pleiades.
The separation between the two was approximately 2.5 degrees.
I did not detect a tail but I feel that this observation represents all that was visible
through my binoculars at the time. The view is looking south with west to my right.
I welcome any comments on my observation.

コメント：昴に近づき、彗星の尾が昴に差しかかろうとしている所です。
　　　　　あまり透明度も良くない状況でしたが、なんとか彗星の尾の青と
　　　　　昴の青白いコントラストに魅せられました。
　　　　　彗星の光度は約４等星ぐらいで、もう少し短いレンズで、撮れば良かった
　　　　　と思いました。
　　　　　旧式の望遠レンズは持っているのですが、収差があり、星像が甘いため、諦
めました。

I made another observation of the comet and the Pleiades (M45) on January 7, 2005 at 06:30 U.T.
using my 7 x 50 binoculars. Tonight's observation is even better than that made yesterday! My skies
were better but I also kept the orientation of the comet and M45 as I viewed them through the binoculars
(north to my right and west at my feet). This orientation produces a more natural appearance of the Pleiades,
in my opinion. I hope that you like this one as well.

e were all treated to a spectacular view of Comet Machholz and M45 (Pleiades) tonight.
The pair produced a breathtaking view through a pair of binoculars. I made an observation of the pair on
January 6, 2005 at 05:30 U.T. using my 7 x 50 binoculars at the time. They were separated by approximately
4.5 degrees at the time of my observation.

I was able to observe Comet Machholz (C/2004 Q2) on January 4, 2005 at 05:10 U.T.
using my 9-inch F/13.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain at 97x.
The nucleus was star-like and the coma very large and diffuse. I believe that I noted a faint pencil-thin tail
 in a WSW direction when the seeing steadied for a few seconds. The brightest stars,
in a clockwise direction starting from north, are HIP16641 (6.12, edge of field), HIP17058 (6.15),
HIP18170 (5.96), HIP18033 (6.28), and HIP16924 (6.37).
This has been a very interesting comet to observe and image.

I was able to make an observation of Comet Machholz (C/2004 Q2)
through breaks in the clouds on January 3, 2005 at 04:50 U.T.
using 7 x 50 binoculars.
The comet appeared brighter than I last observed it.
I estimate it's magnitude to be close to fourth magnitude
(in comparison to Lambda Tauri (3.40) and 30 Tauri (5.06)).
The nucleus remains star-like and the coma very extensive.
The brightest star closest to the comet, in a clockwise fashion,
is HIP18033 (6.28), Lambda Tauri (3.40, edge of field at 4 o'clock),
30 Tauri (5.06), and HIP17049 (6.65).

蓄積型ビデオカメラ　TGV−M　で、マックホルツ彗星を撮ってみました。
２００ｍｍ（Ｆ２．８）望遠をつけ、８．５秒蓄積露光を行い、編集ソフト
「ビデオスタジオ７」> で約６０秒の録画（ａｖｉで記録される）をし、Ｒｅｇｉｓｔａｘ
で自動処理 してみました。
適当にやったので、技術的なことは何も考慮していません。
画像はとても汚いですが、アンチテイルまで写ってくれました。
もう少しましな明るい光学系を使えば、違った結果が出るかもしれません。
とても簡単なだけがとりえです。
少し工夫をしてチャレンジしてみたいと思います。

I had a first oppotunity to take images of comet C/2004 Q2 Machholz.The comet's position in the sky was
still low at my site,but thanks a clear sky the visibility was good.This is an image of the central part of the
coma(central condensation)filtered in the red,an average of 23 exposures of 10.5 sec with the ATIK
instruments ATK-2C air cooled color CCD.The nucleus was very starlike visually,but shows a real speck
on the monitor creen though.



This is an additional observation of the coma of C/2004 Q2 Machholz.The position of the comet in the
sky was very low and the seeing was very poor.Though the air was very clear and dry.
A composite of 23 exposures of 10.5 second with the ATK-2C color ccd.

 I made an observation of Comet C/2004 Q2 (Machholz) on December 8, 2004 at 06:30 U.T. using a 9-inch
F/13.5 Maksutov-Cassegrain at 97x. The coma appeared large and diffuse whereas the nucleus was "star-like"
in nature. The brightest star southwest of the comet is HIP21893 (6.78m). I welcome any comments on my observation.
